SEND at Holmes Bible College

Friday, November 11, 2011

During the first week of November, WMM and The Awakening hosted the annual SEND Week conference on the campus of Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC. Holmes is experiencing an exciting time of growth and expansion and we were honored to catch a glimpse of what the Lord is doing on campus! SEND 2011 kicked off on November 1st with Phillip Gschwend sharing about how students can be a light in our dark world. We were thrilled to have Joshua Ben and Theresa King join us for the first time this year to share about their experiences with God’s faithfulness on the field. The students were in awe of the stories of the miracles of provision God has performed for the Kings. Amber Roy, daughter of long-time missionaries Ron and Phyllis Roy and now a missionary herself, spoke about developing intimacy with God. We were also excited to have Ben and Deysi West teach about effective ministry to unreached people groups! The Wests have served in Asia for 8 years working with unreached people groups in a closed country and have recently joined the WMM team! Max Barroso challenged students to examine their motives, rediscover the message and embrace the method of missions as reflected in the life of Christ.

Tuesday evening, students, faculty and staff brought wonderful dishes representing nations across the globe for the annual international dinner after which Joshua Ben King gave students a glimpse of the ministry the Lord has given him through his pottery wheel! Ben is able to share the story of creation and the purpose of the Gospel in a powerful way as he molds a lump of clay into a beautiful piece of pottery. At the end of SEND Week, several of the missionaries made themselves available as a panel to answer any questions students might have about their ministry, what it means to be a missionary and so much more! We had a fantastic time and are greatly encouraged by the passion for missions on the campus of Holmes. We would also like to offer a special thank you to Bishop Leggett, president of Holmes, for allowing us to share our hearts with Holmes students as well as to Darah Tickle and the missions club for their help in making SEND 2011 a huge success!
