While most Americans celebrate Independence Day shooting fireworks over the lake or at a backyard barbeque, 51 IPHC students and leaders chose to, instead, join Discipleship Ministries and The Awakening to provide a celebration of their own for a broken and hurting community in Brooklyn, NY. For four days in early July, Discipleship Ministries and The Awakening partnered to lead a domestic mission trip to work with Metro Ministries—a dynamic, inner-city ministry that reaches thousands of children each week with their unique Sidewalk Sunday School model. Youth groups from South Henderson PH Church, Goshen New Life Church, Gospel Temple Worship Center as well as a few individuals from across the US participated in the team.
For the 4th of July weekend, Metro hosted an Independence Day celebration full of carnival games, free food, and water slides staffed by our very own mission team. The group had a blast canvassing the neighborhoods inviting people to the celebration and praying for any needs they might have. After the big event, the team had the opportunity to pray over the city of New York City from the middle of the historic Brooklyn Bridge. Ultimately, The Awakening’s team had an incredible time giving of their time and efforts to show the love of Christ to the Bushwick community of Brooklyn!
