During the first week of September, WMM held its annual SEND (See Every Nation Discipled) Week at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, OK. SEND is a dynamic conference held on each of the IPHC college campuses each year to help introduce students to what WMM is doing around the world and how they can get involved. Through worship led by The Awakening Band, preaching from various WMM leaders, games and meals, we were given a chance to interact with students, find out what God is speaking to them and let them know how WMM can serve them!
In the Tuesday morning chapel service, Continental Director of LAMCAR, Dan Clowers, shared about conquering the fear and apprehension we have concerning God’s ability to use us for His kingdom. Several SCU students responded to the altar call and accepted the challenge of making themselves available to God’s call! That evening, The Awakening staff challenged students to a game of Capture the Flag while encouraging them to capture the flag that God has placed in their hearts!
On Wednesday evening, Janese Bennett, former missionary to England and wife of People to People director, Matt Bennett, shared a powerful message with the students about living out their faith through the power of the Holy Spirit and the importance of being obedient to the Spirit’s leading!
During the Thursday morning chapel service, Max Barroso, director of The Awakening, spoke to students about the role of faith in missions. He encouraged students not to profess faith only as “fire insurance” from Hell, but to have “fireproof faith” in their mission to spread the Gospel! SEND Week 2011 closed Thursday evening with a cultural tasting of dishes representing five different countries and cultures from across the globe!
We were extremely pleased with the response of SCU students to the message of missions this year at SEND! Many of the students are now interested in joining The Awakening on a mission trip during Spring Break of 2012. We can’t wait to see how the Lord grows the seed planted on the SCU campus and uses SCU students to reach the world!
World Missions and The Awakening celebrate another successful SEND Week at SCU!
